This book consists of a collection of
articles written during the last seventeen years, that is
between the outbreak of the first Intifada, late 1987,
through the first Gulf War, the so-called peace process, the
second Intifada, and finally the second Gulf war up to the
present time 2005. the articles included in the book, with
the exception of chapter 9, were written originally in
English, given at international conferences in Palestine or
overseas, then mostly published in a folklore journal.
Chapter 9 was written in Arabic and translated by Professor
Ibrahim Muhawi, presently of the University of Vienna.
The articles included in the book have in
common that they all deal with some aspect of Palestinian
folklore and with developments in Middle East politics. In
that respect they all fall within what I would call the
academic field of political Folklore.
